EGR GYM history: how the gym in Carpina, Brazil was born

EGR GYM is a gym from Carpina, Pernambuco (Brazil), created by founder Edval Júnior and part of the same group as EGR Atacadista and EGR Agropecuária. The name is a tribute to the founder's father: EGR are his initials. Announced in October 2024, the gym held its grand opening on September 25, 2026 and opened to the public on September 28, at Av. Pres. Getúlio Vargas, 923 (Rua dos Tamarindos), Santa Cruz, Carpina - PE.

Before opening its doors, EGR GYM traveled a long road in Carpina. It took almost two years of announcements, listening, research, street events and preparing the facilities, always guided by one central idea: to build a gym that cares for people as a whole, not just a space full of machines.

In this article, we bring together the key milestones of that journey, based on what was shared on our official Instagram profile, @egrgym. It's the story of how EGR GYM went from a project on paper to Rua dos Tamarindos (Tamarind Street).

What does the name EGR mean?

The gym's name has a personal origin. In the first episode of EGRCast, founder Edval Júnior explained the choice of the acronym:

"EGR, the name, the EGR acronym, is the three initials of my father's name."

When was EGR GYM announced in Carpina?

EGR GYM's first posts were published in October 2024, announcing the arrival in Carpina of a gym built on innovation, technology, personalized training and a community to keep members motivated. From then on, the profile drew people eager to follow every stage: in May 2025, the community reached 3,000 followers, and in July of that year it passed 4,000, while the gym was still under construction.

In July 2025, EGR also launched EGRCast, a project created to inspire, inform and bring the public closer to the essence of what was being built. In one podcast clip, the founder remarked that on the streets, in messages and on phone calls, the question was always the same: "When will the gym be ready?" That interest showed that EGR had caught the city's attention long before the grand opening.

What is the Well-Being X-Ray?

In September 2025, EGR GYM introduced the Well-Being X-Ray (Raio-X do Bem-Estar), which the team also calls the MQV (Quality of Life Assessment). It is a quick questionnaire, taking about 3 minutes, with questions about sleep, energy, diet and mood. When finished, the person receives personalized feedback from a specialist on WhatsApp.

The idea behind the Well-Being X-Ray sums up the gym's philosophy well: before the first workout, you need to get to know the person, their routine and their key quality-of-life indicators. The assessment went on to accompany EGR at several outside events, such as the Petribu running event in November 2025, and today it is the gateway to the Quality of Life Center.

How listening on the streets shaped the gym's concept

In February 2026, the EGR team took to the streets of Carpina with a simple question: what most stops people from taking care of their health? The answers kept repeating: lack of time, fatigue and the rush of everyday life. As the video published on February 4, 2026 summed up, the challenge isn't wanting to, but dealing with routine, fatigue and the difficulty of making yourself a priority.

That listening guided the gym's positioning. The next day, EGR published a summary of what it had learned:

"EGR is born from this listening, designed for real people with real routines."

In other words, an environment that respects limits, helps build consistency and offers a more mindful way of taking care of yourself, in tune with life as it really is. Between February and March 2026, EGR also introduced the public to the instructors who would join the team.

From equipment delivery to the grand opening

In April 2026, EGR shared the first sneak peek of the space, promising that every detail had been designed for people who take training seriously. At the end of August 2026 came one of the most anticipated moments: the equipment started arriving. The delivery video carried a message that sums up the period: "It took months of planning, dedication and choices made with every detail in mind."

In September 2026, the whole team gathered to align the final steps before the grand opening. The facility being prepared spans three floors and brings together weight training, cardio, a spinning studio, functional training, group programs, a nutritionist and a Recovery Room, plus underground parking. On September 25, EGR GYM held its grand opening, and on September 28 it opened its doors to the public.

EGR GYM's journey to opening day shows that the project was built with the city, not just for it. Every stage, from the first announcement to the arrival of the equipment, reinforced the commitment to a new concept in training, health and quality of life in Carpina.
